The Restoration of Timber Artistic Components Inside the Church

In the year 1770, Lőrinc UMLING builds a boarded ceiling for the Calvinist church in Sic, painted in a monochrome blue hue. During restoration works by the mid 20th century, the board bearing an inscription is removed and the ceiling is screened over with an entirely new layer. The removed board was restored and repainted by Lisette KABAY, in 1963. The ceiling partially preserved in situ, was not demolished during the 2013-2015 restoration, it has been kept intact under the new panelled ceiling. The original colour of the ceiling painted by UMLING, a hue of light blue, faded and modified in time, witness surfaces being kept under the division elements; the layer of paint having also been damaged by halos of infiltrated water.
The old gallery parapet of the church, manufactured in 1733, was later dissembled and included in new structures, being painted over several times. A board bearing an inscription was restored by Lisette KABAY in 1964, by removing the paint layers applied in 1770.
The canopied and simple pews of the church were manufactured in the second half of the 18th century. They were originally of a natural appearance but have been several times painted over. During the recent restoration, a pew-parapet was restored to its original colours by removing the layers of paint, while on the rest of wooden elements these layers were maintained and the original colour was reestablished as new finishing.
The pulpit crown was manufactured in 1776, the costs being covered from the donations of the Sic Calvinist priest József F. TORJAI and his wife Zsuzsanna Aranka ZÁGONI. This piece has also been modified and painted several times. During the recent restoration, the original colours, preserved in a proportion of 95% came to light.
